A refresher course in hotel cancellation fees
A cancellation fee is a fee that the hotel or booking agency can charge you in the event that you
cancel the room reservation that you booked. Cancellation fees vary depending on the hotel
booking cancellation policy, but there are two main types of cancellation fees that we will focus on here.
Before booking a hotel reservation, be sure to find out which type of cancellation fee there is for the reservation in question; some hotels don't have any kind of cancellation fee at all, while a majority will require one of the two following types.
The Nonrefundable Booking Cancellation Fee
The most harsh and least flexible type of hotel cancellation fee.
Generally applicable to prepaid reservations.
In the event that you need to cancel your room reservation, you are not entitled to a refund regardless of your circumstances.
The One Night Cancellation Fee
A less harsh, yet still costly type of cancellation fee.
As a penalty for canceling your hotel reservation, you will be charged the cost of one night’s stay at the hotel.
You are entitled to a refund of or released of the responsibility to pay the cost of the rest of the reservation.
